MACARONI SIGMA SNAFUS
The post title, of course, is an anagram of: ANAGRAMS OF MUSICIANS
I co-hosted trivia night last night at Scholars, our friendly neighborhood Irish pub. Quite a fun night. This was my favorite category. I'll list the questions for our adoring Internet audience. The objective is to rearrange the letters to form the name of a well-known musician (or singer).
For example: BLAND BOY = BOB DYLAN
Some hints: Of the 10 names, 4 are female and 2 are dead. The phrases, while hilarious, do not necessarily describe the musician. On to the anagrams. Enjoy!
1. A GLAD GAY
2. WAYS TO FLIRT
3. CUT UP A SHARK
4. ORAL MAJESTY
5. NARCOLEPTIC
6. PRESBYTERIANS
7. LIMITLESS TOY
8. BURSTING PRESENCE
9. I'M A JERK, BUT LISTEN
10. A FAMOUS GERMAN WALTZ GOD

So much news
It's been a hectic week here in the Eternal City. We met Pope Francis (although we much prefer his Italian name, Papa Francesco Primo). A really fun, historic experience. He seems like a nice, gentle guy. I'm not crazy about with the Catholic Church, but it was an incredible evening, being amongst the faithful in St. Peter's Basilica. Francesco's first words were funny: "Fratelli e sorelle ... " He paused, as if he hadn't prepared or didn't know how to go on. Then he broke into a smile: "Buonasera!" Applause!
Caitlin has a bit of a head cold, but she's already on the mend. Nothing like a day off from school to clean the apartment and plan our wedding!
Our St. Patrick's Day Gaelic Football exhibition match was a blast! It was nice to finally play an official match again. I felt much more confident in my skills compared to my first match. I even scored my very first point — kicked one through the uprights in heavy traffic. We had to recruit Australian football players to fill out the teams, and they played a bit rough. But all in all it was a great, fun match. I think my side even won.
Went to ultimate training for the first time in a couple weeks. I hadn't gone since my last tournament in Bologna. I'm having a tough time playing ultimate here ... the fun factor seems to be missing. But that's a topic for another post. In any case, I heard there was a group of Americans stopping by our training on Thursday, so I dropped by. It was a high school class field trip, from Mississippi! How wonderful to hear drawls and kids calling me "sir" and asking me if I'd lived in Rome all my life. Half of them were born in Flowood, probably the same hospital as Jack. I thought how cool it was for this group of kids to experience an authentic Roman night. There itinerary involved dozens of tours and attractions. Amazing, yes, but touristy. On this night, though, the high schoolers were playing frisbee with a bunch of Romans, having fun and laughing. It was a lovely night.
Things are good at the ESE. Finals are rapidly approaching. I have 2 final exams and 2 projects. Lots of work ahead, but I'm game.
The weather keeps teasing us. We had spectacular weather in early March, but a 2-week cold streak since. But highs in the low-60s this week!

Smoke on the screen (bottom left) and the chimney (right) |
I met some friends at St. Peter's this morning. Some off-and-on drizzle, but nothing too bad. We all expected bigger crowd in the basilica. At 11:45, we saw the black smoke. We were all interviewed by various media outlets. We all said the same thing: Yes, we're excited to be here for the historic occasion, but no, we don't have any expectations for who might be elected. Yes, it would be exciting if it's a non-European, and no, we're not disappointed that it's black smoke this morning. Caitlin and I will head back over this afternoon for the second vote of the day.

Pho! But still no pope
No pope yet. Forse domani. I have the day off and will head down there to make sure things are running smoothly. If the conclave is waiting for sunshine, it'll take a few days; thunderstorms are forecast until Friday. Who wants to greet the world as Pontificus Maximus in lightning and thunder?
Big news here: We found a Vietnamese restaurant that serves PHO! And it's right across the river from us! I don't think most of our readers fully appreciate what this means. Remember Popeye, and what happened when he ate spinach? Well let's just say there are steam engines running inside us right now.

Armani pants, rain, and the Pope
Andy just almost purchased a pair of Armani pants. He backed out at the last minute. They looked very nice on him. Maybe I can get him to go back to the store tomorrow.
Things are otherwise are going well. Italy is kind of a mess right now since we have no government or Pope. The conclave starts tomorrow though and we're hoping to have a new Pope by the end of the week.
My head is better. I took a week off of work, on doctor's orders, and went back to school last week. I was tired but mainly good. I missed being at school with my kids and started to get a little bored at home by myself.
