What a fun ultimate tournament! We spent the first half of our spring break in Rimini, on the Adriatic coast. Some of my college buddies organized a team for Paganello, an enormous international beach tournament. Ton of fun, not just playing on the beach, but seeing House and Katelyn, Ace and Sketch and BJ again, meeting new folks and enjoying the ultimate scene once more. I had been rather down on ultimate the past few months, but at Paganello I really remembered why I like the sport so much. Some foe-toes:
Crunkzilla. Destroy, destroy, destroy. |
The sun came out on Easter Sunday! |
Caitlin also had a fantastic time, mostly because she decided to not rush back from a head injury. Definitely a good idea. So instead of running around like crazy and diving in the sand, she lay on the beach, took in some sun, snapped some foe-toes, cheered on the team to victory. (We went 5-3, not including the two high school teams we played ... hey directors, how about a B-division? Everyone wins!)
My favorite experience was walking with our teammates into the centro storico, and finding a nice piazza and a couple of bars. It was nice and quiet, away from the craziness of the tournament and touristy attractions. Good times there.
Now we're in Puglia, the "heel" of the "boot" and there are "fighter jets" circling above our "agriturismo." It was a long haul to get here in our rental car — there was some confusion over the distance ... miles vs. kilometers. But we made it here after a long day of driving, and it's totally worth it. We took a little hike to a tower overlooking the sea this morning. Now we're enjoying our semi-private terrazza and getting some studying in before lunch. Not bad. We're here until Saturday afternoon. It's amazing how peaceful and quiet it is (or was, before the fighter jets came out to play). Really a lovely place, nice staff and plenty of SUN!
